Why communication training?
Success in the workplace stems from effective communication. Communication is a broad topic that includes interactions with virtually everyone. Communication is what drives culture both within and outside of an organization. Often organizations believe that they are not effective communicators and desire a change. Many times an organizations climate is very supportive for communication but employees lack trust or confidence in their communication efforts.
Who can benefit from communication training?
Everyone in your organization can benefit from communication training. Communication efforts should be targeted for those who interact with external clients as well as interdepartmental. Top executives, managers, supervisors, and all team members can benefit from a fresh look at the theories and concepts surrounding communication in our workplace.
What is the length of training? How much training do we need?
Typically a training intervention is recommended based on a free consultation or interview with the client. This consultation is normally brief (approximately 1 hour or less) and is used only as a starting point to gauge the needs of the client. Communication training can vary drastically in length and may focus on specific areas or internal versus external communication. Sessions are normally at least 3-4 hours, but may go up to 16+ hours depending on the needs of the individuals and the organization. (On-going consultation services are always available.) In-depth skill, competency, or needs assessments are always an option to help your organization discover areas or disciplines that may require specific interventions.
Do we also need customer service or leadership training?
Many times clients believe that communication training is the answer to all of their organization development needs. This may be true and is a great place to start, however many times there are other dynamics active in the organization that may require other interventions. Remember that communication training is not customer service training and it is not supervisory or leadership training.
